MESSAGE

Greetings to all !

GZS Campus College of Engineering & Technology is completing 33 glorious years of its inception this year. The mission of the college is to produce efficient and competent professionals in the service to the society, nation and mankind. The College was established as Government Engineering College in the year 1989 by Government of Punjab to impart undergraduate level education in the core disciplines of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, and Architecture. In order to ensure faster and holistic development of the College, it was accorded autonomous status in 1992 as College of Engineering & Technology. Later, in 1995, it was rechristened as Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering & Technology as a mark of respect to the former President of India.

Since its inception, the college has been leaving no stone unturned in keeping pace with the technological developments and requirements taking place in the field of engineering & technology. In the year 1995, undergraduate course in Textile Engineering was started at the college to meet the tremendous requirements of technological manpower in this cotton belt of the state. Keeping in view the incredible developments taking place in field of computers, undergraduate level course in the field of Computer Science and Engineering was started in the year 1997. In the year 1999, the undergraduate course in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was converted to Electronic and Communication Engineering in line with the demand of the stakeholders. With the beginning of the new millennium, the college began to expand vertically and gradually started offering Postgraduate and Doctoral programs in all disciplines of Engineering & Technology.

In the year 2012, this College became the Campus College of IKG Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, and then in the year 2015 it became the Campus College of newly established Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda. In 2013, the college received TEQIP-II grant of Rupees 10 crores which has been extensively used for up-gradation of lab infrastructure of the college. The grant has also been utilized for enhancement of academic, technological, and administrative management skills of faculty and staff. In 2015, the college received Outstanding Institution Award from NITTTR Chandigarh in recognition of its contribution to the society in the field of technical education.

With a sprawling lush-green campus and attractive buildings and roads infrastructure spread over an area of 146 acres, and state of the art laboratories, computer centres, library and workshops, the institute stands out as an exceptional centre of education for Engineering courses which are duly approved by AICTE. This college, with its highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty is continuously striving hard to achieve excellence in imparting technical education to the students of the region. A rich legacy of the college is being carried on by well-placed alumni of last 28 pass-out batches, which are spread over all corners of the world as successful entrepreneurs, administrators, researchers, academicians, technocrats and architects, thus symbolizing our humble contribution to the society.

Brief Profile of Prof. (Dr) Sanjiv Kumar Aggarwal

An acknowledged academician, researcher, and academic administrator, Dr. Sanjiv Kumar Aggarwal, has to his credit an excellent and meritorious academic career throughout. He has obtained all his professional education from prestigious technological institutions of the country. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering with Distinction from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala in 1990. He followed it up with Master of Engineering Degree in Highway Engineering with Distinction from Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh with GATE Fellowship in 1992. While in service, he got QIP Fellowship of Govt. of India to earn his PhD Degree in Transportation Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in 2003.

He has a long and illustrious service career of serving at Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda, in various capacities since last thirty years. Presently, apart from being the Campus Director, he is also discharging his duties as Professor of Civil Engineering. He has headed the Department of Civil Engineering, and Department of Training & Placement at this College at different times. He has also served as Dean Distance Education, MRSPTU, Bathinda and Director, Punjab Institute of Technology, GTB Garh, Moga. He has also contributed to the institution by serving as PI (Academics) of GZSCCET, and PI (Construction Wing) of MRSPTU, Bathinda. He has also been the Coordinator and Finance Controller of prestigious TEQIP-II project of AICTE.

He has participated in more than 50 National and International level Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Professional Meetings in India and abroad and published more than 75 technical/research papers in various Journals and Conference Proceedings. He has guided more than 45 postgraduate students for completing their Masters’ Dissertation and 4 doctoral students for completing their PhD Thesis.

He has also travelled abroad to present his academic and research work at various international platforms like World Roads Congress Paris, France; University of Birmingham, UK; Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; and Australian Road Research Board, Melbourne, Australia. He is an active member of the various International and National professional organizations such as ASCE, PIARC, REAAA, IRC, IEI, ISTE, IIBE, and IUT etc. He has been honoured with several awards such as Vikas Rattan Award, Bharat Jyoti Award, and Shiksha Rattan Award for his contribution to the society through his profession.

He has been actively engaged in providing technical consultancy to several Govt. and Private organization in the field of Highways, Railways and Airport Engineering. He is also coordinating the State Technical Agency set up by the Union Ministry of Rural Development for implementation of prestigious PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yozna) in the state of Punjab. He is on expert panel of several academic and technological organizations of the country for enriching and sharing his valuable experience gained over several years.
